A Coventry-based charity has organised a unique food packing drive with local refugees.

Feed the Hungry has invited a large group of displaced Ukrainians, currently living in Warwickshire, to their warehouse today.

More than 500 boxes of food will be sent to Ukraine, with help from international partner organisations in Eastern Europe.

Each parcel will include items such as rice, pasta, and tinned goods - sufficient to feed a family for a whole week.

Gavin Kibble is the UK Director of Feed the Hungry and founder of Coventry Food Bank.

He said: "Its exciting and we’re very much looking forward to it.

"We haven’t heard of a Ukrainian community, who have been displaced by war, packing food in this way to send back to their fellow countrymen."

The idea was suggested by one of the charity’s employees, to celebrate Ukrainian Christmas – which took place last week.

Feed the Hungry also works with the local Ukrainian community by providing weekly food to a group residing in Lillington, as well as supporting refugees in Coleshill.

The food packing drive will take place between 10am and 3pm today (14 January) at the Halo Centre in Binley Industrial Estate.
