Arthur Labinjo-Hughes memorial on Europe's largest billboard
The billboard is located in Manchester
A memorial of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes has been put on Europe's largest billboard, located in Manchester.
The tribute to Arthur was installed and created by LADbible Group and their in-house design team, with a message reading 'In Memory Of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes' accompanying the illustration.
LADbible has also worked with the NSPCC on the activation to raise awareness and offer support to anyone concerned about a child, with a clear call to action, encouraging anyone who may be worried to contact their helpline on 0808 800 5000 or email help@NSPCC.org.uk for support.
Maya Orr, Director of Marketing and Comms, LADbible Group said: ‘Arthur’s story has made a huge impact on our audiences and our comment sections have shown that so many want to ensure that this never happens again. We hope that this activation not only honours Arthur's memory, but also shines a light on the NSPCC's critical services and helpline.'
The billboard is live in Manchester and LADbible will publish the tribute across their editorial and social channels, reaching an audience of 94.7 million.
David Hamilton, Director of Communications & Marketing at NSPCC said, “The nation is still shocked and heartbroken at what happened to Arthur Labinjo-Hughes. He must never be forgotten, and his memory must drive us, at all levels of society, to do everything we possibly can to keep our children safe.
“This tribute to Arthur on the billboard outside Old Trafford will hopefully encourage fans going to the game and people passing by to take a few moments to remember his life which was so cruelly cut short. Anyone with concerns for the wellbeing of a child should always contact the local authorities, the police or the NSPCC Helpline.”
What happened to Arthur's father and stepmother?
The stepmother who murdered six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes in Solihull last year has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 29 years, while his father has been jailed for 21 years for his manslaughter and cruelty.
Emma Tustin, 32, was convicted last Thursday (2 December) of murdering the defenceless boy who had been subjected to a campaign of "evil" abuse.
Her partner and Arthur's father, 29-year-old Thomas Hughes, was found guilty of manslaughter, after his son suffered an "unsurvivable brain injury" on June 16, 2020.
After his death, Arthur was found to have 130 injuries all over his body, after being hit, slapped, kicked, punched and beaten, "over and over".
Tustin admitted two other counts of child cruelty, by wilfully assaulting the boy and isolating him in the home by making him stand up to 14 hours a day in the hallway with jurors convicting Hughes on both those counts.
