Coventry Police say damage to public sites ‘will not be tolerated’ after red paint was tipped over a sculpture in the city.

Thanks to the work of the Coventry City Centre Police team, it's been confirmed by the force that a 15-year-old boy has now been arrested following the incident earlier this week.

The Naiad sculpture has been a part of the city for decades, and was only relocated to the Upper Precinct back in 2021 as part of celebrations to mark it being the City of Culture that year.

Before than, it had been in storage because the local authority at the time wanted to find a safer place to put it, after it was originally in the Earl Street courtyard.

In a statement on social media, officers added: "We understand how much incidents like this mean to the community and remain committed to taking action against this kind of behaviour.

"Damage to public sites will not be tolerated."

Anyone who might have seen anything can contact Police via Live Chat or 101 quoting crime number 20/956713/23.
