It has been a busy morning for the Coventry gangs police team, with more than 400 cannabis plants seized.

Officers carried out a warrant at a business premises in Lockhurst Lane today (14 Feb), where they found an extensive cannabis grow.

Inside, the electricity had been illegally bypassed, allowing for the huge amounts of power required to light and heat the growing rooms.

Several growing rooms, containing more than 400 plants in total, were found along with a knife.

In one of the rooms, makeshift living quarters had been set up.

Following the warrant, engineers from the National Grid made the premises safe while officers seized the cannabis and gathered intelligence.

Cannabis factories pose a fire risk to the buildings they are run from, and neighbouring properties.

The people who work inside cannabis farms are often vulnerable people being exploited by criminal gangs.

Over the past few months, the gangs team has been carrying out regular warrants aimed at targeting cannabis farms and premises used for drug dealing.

This type of crime can have a devastating effect on the areas it takes place in, often at the expense of some of the most vulnerable people in the community.

The gangs team, as well as the Coventry LPA neighbourhood teams are constantly gathering intelligence around drug dealing which, along with reports from the public, helps make these operations possible.

If you are concerned there may be drug cultivation or dealing near where you live, contact police via 101 or Live Chat.

If you'd prefer to be anonymous, you can report to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
