33-year-old woman dies following serious collision on A39 near Penryn

Police have confirmed the incident involved a pedestrian and a van and are appealing for witnesses

Police have confirmed a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a van on Cornwall's A39 was fatal.

Officers say the pedestrian suffered serious injuries following the incident near Penryn on Friday 24th June.

The 33-year-old woman, who was from the local area, was airlifted to Plymouth's Derriford Hospital where she later died.

Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The collision happened between the Treliever Roundabout and Kernick Road Industrial Estate shortly after 9.30am, closing the road for around seven hours.

Devon & Cornwall Police are thanking members of the public who helped at the scene and urging witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward via 101.

A force spokesperson said: "Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision near Penryn are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a Volkswagen van and a pedestrian, on the A39 between Treliever roundabout and Kernick Road Industrial Estate Penryn, at around 9.35am today, Friday 24th June.

"The pedestrian, a 33-year-old woman from the local area, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by Cornwall Air Ambulance, where she later died.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police.

"The driver of the van stopped at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries.

"The A39 between Kernick Road Industrial Estate and Treliever roundabout was closed while Forensic Collision Officers investigated the collision, but it was reopened at around 4.20pm.

"Officers from the Specialist Roads Policing Team would like to thank those members of the public who assisted at the scene.
