Man in his 20s seriously injured after crash involving police vehicle on A30

A man in his 20s has suffered serious injuries after a crash on the A30 in west Cornwall.

The driver has been rushed to Treliske following the collision on the Hayle bypass.

His car and a police vehicle were involved in the incident in the early hours of Friday morning (11th June).

Two passengers were treated for minor injuries.

Two police officers were also taken to hospital with suspected fractures.

It happened between the Loggans Moor and St Erth roundabout at around 1.45am, closing the road in both directions until just before 9am.

Devon & Cornwall Police said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A30 between Loggans and Hayle at around 1.45am today (Friday 11 June.)

"The collision was between a Volvo police vehicle and a silver VW Golf.

"Ambulance, fire and additional police units attended the scene.

"The driver of the VW golf, a man in his 20s was taken to Treliske Hospital with serious leg injuries. Two passengers from the same vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

"Two police officers were also taken to hospital for treatment for suspected fractured bones".

They added: "An investigation will be carried out into the circumstances of the collision, and as per Force policy for incidents involving a police vehicle, this matter has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Complaints (IOPC), and police Professional Standards Department".
