"I don’t think any visit to Cornwall is complete without a Cornish pasty ", that's what the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has said ahead of this summer's G7 Summit.

George Eustice, who is also the MP for Camborne and Redruth, hopes that the popular Cornish delicacy will be on the menu when world leaders descend on the Duchy in June.

"I’m sure that at some point during the event world leaders will be treated to a Cornish pasty. We'll have to work out who the right supplier is.

"Of course, there are lots of different views about who has the best Cornish pasty. It’s bound to be part of the cuisine on offer.

"It’s a really big opportunity for us to showcase our hospitality and the fact that we got some of the best food in the world and the best cuisine in the world. "

Local figures say the Summit will also give the county the opportunity to show off Cornish culture, business, and Cornwall's work on renewable energy.

"Cornwall is an amazing place. If you're going to a top level conference, where better in the world than St Ives Bay? I hope world leaders and the world's media will get a chance, when they're here, to have a look around at the amazing, natural, historical and beautiful architectural places that we've got here.

"The businesses and the industries we’ve got here, like renewable energy and lithium, and the digital businesses that are springing up in Cornwall, and the opportunities for things like floating offshore wind, are really the industries of the future and are being led, in some places, by Cornwall.

"We’ve got to get our act together now as the spotlight turns on us to make sure that it's not just the weekend in June where we are under scrutiny but between now and then we a good account of ourselves in terms of the businesses we've got here the culture and history and arts and society and community spirit that we've got here."

Bosses at Cornwall's tourism board are also excited to show world leaders the best of what the Duchy has to offer:

"The G7 Summit will bring the world’s spotlight, and the media all over the world will be showcasing Cornwall. And that's not just how beautiful it is and what a wonderful place to maybe come and visit, but also for the lithium, renewables and spaceports, and lots of other developments to get in the sunshine as well.

"I think it’ll give a chance, not only as the rest of the world comes to discuss what the future is, for Cornwall to actually propose its future. We have got a bright future, and that will hopefully bring investment to the county in all sorts of ways that is green, sustainable, and actually helps build a better quality of life for people."
