Work is underway to try and find a solution for a notorious crossroads near Newquay.

The MP for Truro and Falmouth has met with local councillors in a bid to discuss a solution to the problems that plague the Cubert crossroads.

The junction on the A3075 is well known as an area that sees a high number of crashes, especially during the busy summer months.

A consultation on a range of potential options for improving the junction was carried out by Cornwall Council five years ago.

The preferred option was a roundabout but the estimated cost is around £4.5 million.

Now Cherilyn Mackrory is calling for the government to provide more funding to help move the scheme forward.

“It was great to meet on-site at the Cubert crossroads today with Cornwall Council Highways, Cornwall Councillor Adrian Harvey and Chairman of Cubert Parish Council Alan Percy.

“I am very much aware of the issues at this junction and it was something I highlighted in my election campaign last year. I am keen to find a solution - we have seen too many accidents here.”

“This is not a new issue. Some may be aware that in 2015 my predecessor encouraged Cornwall Council to undertake feasibility studies and a consultation on a range of potential options for improving this junction.”

“I understand that the outcome of this work enabled Cornwall Council to identify a preferred design option of a 4 arm roundabout. The sticking point has been the estimated cost of £4.5million. This level of funding is not available from the Council’s day to day highways budget, they tell me, and therefore would like to submit a detailed business case for funding to the Government.

“I have now written to the Minister at the Department of Transport in the hope of moving this forward. It would be great if we could secure the money for this much-needed roundabout.”
