Woman suffers burns and another casualty treated for shock after house fire in Torpoint

Properties had to be evacuated on Sunday morning

It has been confirmed that a woman has suffered burns to her face, neck and hands after a house fire in Torpoint.

She was taken to hospital along with another casualty, who was suffering from shock.

It comes after a blaze broke out in a cul-de-sac of three terraced properties at around 11.30am on Sunday morning.

Firefighters say that all people were accounted for and neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution.

Crews used hose reel jets to put the flames out and a fire investigation is now being carried out.

"Critical Control were called by the Ambulance Service to a house fire in Torpoint. Three appliances were mobilised - one from Torpoint Fire Station, one from Greenbank Fire Station (Plymouth) and one from Crownhill Fire Station (Plymouth). On arrival crews found one house well alight and requested an additional three pumps, which were mobilised from Liskeard Fire Station, Looe Fire Station and Bere Alston Fire Station (Devon). South Western Ambulance Service and Devon and Cornwall Police were also in attendance, along with Cornwall's Air Ambulance.

"An Incident Command Unit from Launceston Fire Station, Operational Support Unit from Falmouth, Welfare Unit from St Dennis Fire Station and three Whole Officers were also mobilised, including a Wholetime Officer from Devon.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. All persons are now accounted for.

"The fire was in a cul-de-sac of three terraced houses, and the neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution. Neighbours have since been allowed back into their properties.

"A Fire Investigation Officer, Photographer and Fire Investigation Dog are currently in attendance and are working with police investigators to identify the cause of the incident."

They later added: "Fire investigation officers are still at the scene of this mornings fire in Torpoint.

"A female occupant, who was outside of the property on our arrival, was taken to hospital by ambulance suffering with burns to her face, neck and hands.

"A further casualty was also taken to hospital suffering from shock. Their condition is not known and we have had no further update at this time."
