Woman in her 90s seriously injured by dog

A man's been arrested after a woman in her 90s was bitten by a dog in Cornwall.

Police were called at 12.45am on Thursday 30 May.

The woman's suffered a serious dog bite to her arm, and has been taken to Derriford Hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Police later seized a dog from an address in Cannis Road, St Austell, which has been put to sleep.

The dog was not a banned breed.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police say, "This is believed to have been an isolated incident with no wider risk to the community.

"A police cordon remains in place while enquiries are continuing.

"A man in his 60s from St Austell has been arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing a vulnerable adult to suffer serious harm. He remains in police custody."
