Elderly woman dies following property fire in Newlyn

Investigation officers are trying to establish the cause of the fire.

An elderly woman has died following a property fire in Newlyn.

Fire crews from Penzance and St Just were alerted to the two-storey terrace at 10.58am on Tuesday morning.

They extinguished a fire on the ground floor using one hose reel.

Fire Investigation Officers and Police Scenes of Crime are currently working together to establish the cause of the fire.

Devon and Cornwall Police have been contacted for a statement.

"At 1058hrs appliances from Penzance and St Just Fire Stations were alerted to a persons reported property fire.

"Crews entered the two-storey terraced property wearing breathing apparatus and sadly located an elderly female who was deceased.

"They also extinguished a fire on the ground floor using one hose reel.

"Fire Investigation Officers and Police Scenes of Crime are currently working together to establish the cause of the fire.

"There are no further details on this incident at this time."
