A yellow weather warning for rain has been extended across Cornwall and now covers a 24 hour period.

On Thursday 28th January, the Met Office put out a warning for heavy downpours across the Duchy and was currently in force between 8pm tonight (Friday 29th January) until 3pm on Saturday (30th January).

However, It has since been updated and is in force between 8pm on Friday until 8pm on Saturday.

The Met Office says the period of heavy rain may lead to surface water flooding and transport disruption.

Some areas, particularly the south coast of Cornwall, could see as much as 50mm of rainfall in places.

"A band of heavy rain will move north-east across the area during Friday night, easing during Saturday morning, before another band of rain, some heavy, follows from the south into the afternoon, clearing again by evening.

"During this time, 15-25 mm of rain is likely across the area, with as much as 40-50 mm across parts of Dartmoor and along the south coast."
