The ward successfully completed the gold standards framework accreditation assessment. They were presented with the quality hallmark award at the GSF Conference and Awards Ceremony in September.

The gold standard framework was introduced to Garner Ward by ward manager Sheena Harper and Dr Ana Emberton

GSF is a registered charity that aims to ensure every person in the UK can live well before they die. It also aims to ensure that they die well in the place and manner of their choosing. The ward’s success is the result of tenacity, team work, and collaboration.

Ward manager Sheena Harper said this:

“Through the hard work, compassion, and dedication of the whole team we have now embedded GSF on the ward and gained our accreditation. We will continue to maintain and improve on our achievement, helping our patients to live well during their illness and that their relatives are supported and included in their care from admission through to discharge.”

Ana Emberton is a community ward GP and lead for physician associates:

“We aim to help our patients to live as well as possible, whatever stage of life or illness they are in. GSF helps to provide structure and language for early conversations about individual wishes and preferences. We know that the impact of our care will remain with our patients and carers. The GSF framework has helped to improve our understanding and communication with patients, carers, each other and the wider community teams.”
