Drivers in Cornwall are advised to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys ahead of a weekend closure of the A30 for the removal of a roundabout.

To carry out the work, as part of National Highways’ A30 Chiverton to Carland Cross upgrade, the A30 will be closed between Chiverton and the Boxheater junction from 8.00pm on Friday, 10 March to 6.00am on Monday, 13 March.

The closure will enable the removal of the temporary roundabout at Chybucca and installation of a new signal-controlled junction, which will see traffic switched onto a section of the new A30 carriageway.

The diversion will follow a similar route to the one in place for the recent Tolgroggan bridge lift, with eastbound traffic diverted via the A3075 to Goonhavern and the B3285 to rejoin the A30, and the westbound diversion operating in reverse.

In the meantime, the A30 will be fully closed between the Chiverton and Carland Cross roundabouts during weeknights this week for essential construction work, including earthworks at Tolgroggan and utility and resurfacing work at Chiverton.

During the overnight 8.00pm to 6.00am closures, from today (Monday 6 March) to Friday (10 March), diversions will be in place via the A3075, A3058 and A3076.

Neil Winter, National Highways’ Senior Project Manager for the A30 scheme, said: "People will see the project take more shape this year and there’s a lot of planning and work going into avoiding the impact on holiday periods and keeping traffic moving while construction progresses.

"The closures are required to progress alignment of the new A30 route, we appreciate roadworks can be frustrating, but to keep disruption to an absolute minimum, we’re carrying out as much of the work overnight as possible when traffic levels are lower.

"We’re communicating the closures to local communities and ensuring access is maintained for residents and businesses. We thank people in advance for their co-operation and patience, and in the meantime we advise drivers to plan ahead and allow a little extra time for their journeys during this work."

The new A30 carriageway is scheduled to open later this year.
