Part of a Cornish village has had to be closed off after a suspected unexploded 'sea mine' was found.

Police officers and Western Power were called to Canton Street in Gorran Haven on Monday afternoon.

It was reported that an unexploded ordnance had been found and images were sent to the Royal Navy bomb disposal team.

The area was cordoned off.

Experts have since confirmed that the item was actually a fishing float that had broken away, and was not an explosive device.

"We were called by Western Power at around 1.50pm with a report that a suspected unexploded ordnance, possibly a sea mine, had been found in the Canton Street area of Gorran Haven.

"Officers have attended the scene, the area closed-off, and images of the item sent to the Royal Navy bomb disposal team.

"It was subsequently determined by the experts that the item was in fact a fishing float that had broken away and was not an explosive device."
