Two pubs in Cornwall close their doors
The Edgcumbe Arms in Cremyll and the Smugglers Inn in St Erth Praze announced the news on social media
Two pubs in Cornwall have closed in recent weeks.
The Edgcumbe Arms in Cremyll shut their doors yesterday (Sunday 8 October), saying a mixture of thefts and increased costs mean "it's not possible" for them to continue trading.
In a statement on social media, they said: "We are very sorry to say that we will be closing for the foreseeable future at the END of Sunday 8 October.
"Unfortunately a mixture of thefts and increased costs mean it’s not possible for us to continue trading.
"We are extremely thankful to our amazing team who have worked hard through some challenging times, we will always be grateful.
"To our wonderful customers, thank you for your support. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused."
Elsewhere, the Smugglers Inn in St Erth Praze had their closing day on Friday 29 September. They say it is because their landlord is selling the building.
At the time of announcing their closure last month, the pub said: "It is with great sadness that we announce our closing day which will be Friday 29 September.
"Our reason for closing is simply because our landlord has sold the building and it will no longer be a pub in the future.
"So we would like to thank everyone who has supported us during the last few years, especially through the ‘covid times’ and the ‘financial crisis’ we hope that you’ve enjoyed your visits to us and have good memories of the pub.
"We also need to thank all our staff present and old for being a great team and going the extra mile to make our customers happy."
