Two men arrested in police stop-check in St Austell

Two men have been arrested following an assault against a police officer - when they went to stop check a car in St Austell.

Officers say the incident happened on Saturday afternoon, with both taken in on a number of drug possession offences, and one for the assault of an emergency worker.

One fled the scene before being found a short time later - and both have been released on bail until later this year.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Officers conducted a stop check on a car in St Austell around 1.50pm on Saturday 7 September.

"The car containing two men was seen in Lostwood Road and stopped nearby in Poltair Court.

"One man fled the vehicle after assaulting a male police officer. He was located in Lostwood Road a short time later.

"A quantity of suspected drugs and associated paraphernalia were seized, along with cash.

"A man in his 40s from the St Austell area was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs cocaine and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

"A man in his 30s from St Austell was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug cocaine and common assault of an emergency worker.

"They have been released on bail until 7 December pending further enquiries."
