A serious crash on a rural back road in east Cornwall has seen two people rushed to hospital.

The pair were both trapped after their car overturned at St Cleer on Monday night.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says multiple firefighters, from Callington, Liskeard and Bodmin, were called to the scene.

The first crew arrived within nine minutes of the emergency

Crews had to cut off the roof of the vehicle to get the casualties out.

Police and paramedics were also scrambled just after 7.30pm and the road was closed for several hours.

In a statement, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 19:31 Fire Control were contacted by Police Control reporting a road traffic collision involving a vehicle which had rolled over and two people were trapped inside.

"We mobilised appliances from Liskeard and Callington, the Rescue Tender from Bodmin and a Wholetime Station Manager.

"The first appliance arrived on scene within nine minutes of the emergency call.

"On arrival, crews confirmed two people were medically trapped in the vehicle.

"Crews have used crash rescue equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle and are awaiting arrival of further ambulance resources before extricating both casualties".

Shortly before 9pm they added: "Both casualties have been extricated by fire service personnel and handed over to ambulance crews for further treatment and transport to hospital".

Devon and Cornwall Police have since confirmed the casualties' injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
