Truro City FC taken over by Canadian sports consortium
The club have thanked previous owners, Kernow Sport Ltd, for the work they've done to ensure their survival
Truro City Football Club have new owners.
They have been taken over by Canadian consortium, Ontario Inc, who also hold ownership of Cornwall RLFC.
Incoming executive chairman Eric Perez said: "We are delighted to complete the takeover of Truro City Football Club.
"As the new custodians of Cornwall’s highest ranking football club, we are fully committed to playing our part within the exciting future of the beautiful game in the Duchy."
The National League South side have also announced that they will be moving back to Truro next season.
The club will begin the 2024-25 season at the Langarth Village site, using temporary infrastructure whilst the new ground is built.
Perez adds: "The club stands on the cusp of a new dawn with the move back to Cornwall.
"The team, under the trusted leadership of our manager Paul Wotton, produced wonderful results on the pitch last season in winning promotion back to the National League South.
"The goal is to continue the club’s progress by supporting the delivery of a facility that befits our team’s standing, our accomplishments, and most importantly our ambition."
Truro City had been owned by Kernow Sport Ltd, who own the Cornish Pirates.
Kernow Sport Ltd owner, Dicky Evans, said: "I’m sad to lose TCFC, it’s been a pleasure to support their ambitions, see them promoted, and have started to build their new home in Truro.
"We pass on a great club with a bright future and I wish them well with their new owners."
Speaking about Cornish Pirates, Mr Evans said: "It is a sadness for Pirates to have to give up their ambition for a permanent home in Truro but the bigger reality of my declining health and sunset funding means that sensible governance decisions needed to be made to secure the future of both clubs.
"With TCFC in good hands, I am now totally focussed on passing on the Pirates baton to new rugby owners. Cornish Pirates will remain in Penzance, their home and heartland. We may have lost the Stadium, but we have gained control of our own destiny."
