'A huge, huge loss': Truro Cake House share devastation after break-in
The Cake House claims a group of six was caught on CCTV on Saturday evening hours before the till was stolen
A café in Truro has been dealing with two lots of break-ins in one night - with one person kicking the door in to steal chocolate pudding.
The Cake House claims a group of six was caught on CCTV on Saturday evening hours before the till was stolen.
'Would you believe us if someone kicked our door in simply for a piece of chocolate cake?'
In a statement, The Cake House said on their Facebook page: "Our little café was broken into not once but twice last night.
"Would you believe us if we said someone kicked our door in early in the evening simply for a piece of Chocolate Cake?
"Then when I returned to the café around midnight I found someone coming out of the café with our till in his hands. He exited the other end of the mews but thankfully he was found by police the other side of Truro shortly after.
"The till has since been returned but sadly it isn't working - our broadband cables were also deliberately damaged so we are unable to take any card payments. We've lost our float and stock. Our door also needs repairing.
"We've spent until 3am this morning giving statements - and then spent today with forensics.
"We will be open Monday - Saturday this week but opening at 12 tomorrow instead of 10.30 because I do still have some things I have to do in the morning.
"To be honest as much as we would like to sleep through this week, we cannot afford to lose any more.
"As a small business any loss is a huge, huge loss so this is a significant blow to us both financially but also (and worst of all) emotionally - we feel so unbelievably sad to think someone would deliberately do this and cause so much damage, expense & heartache for such little gain."
