Tributes paid to 'cherished member' of Royal Navy who died in Helston crash

Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old man who died in a crash outside RNAS Culdrose.

Sam Vass, air engineering technician in the Royal Navy, was involved in a collision near RNAS Culdrose after midnight on Saturday 14 December.

He has been described as a "cherished member" of the Royal Navy.

A fundraiser has been set up to support his family and cover the cost of his funeral raising thousands of pounds.

One of Sam's friends, who set up the page, said in tribute: "We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of AET Sam Vass, who lost his life in a car accident on Saturday near RNAS Culdrose. Sam was a cherished member of the Royal Navy, known for his dedication, kindness, and the vibrant spirit he brought into the lives of everyone he met.

"In honour of Sam's memory and to give him the heartfelt farewell he truly deserves, we have initiated a fundraising campaign. The funds raised will go towards supporting his family during this difficult time and covering the expenses of his funeral arrangements.

Police are continuing to appeal for information following the two vehicle crash.
