Staff in Cornwall celebrate NHS' 73rd birthday through 'kitkats of kindness'
Workers at Treliske have been nominating each other for a special treat
People across Cornwall have been celebrating the NHS on its 73rd birthday.
Taking place today (5th July) NHS Charities Together is urging the public to join the UK’s biggest tea break and be part of a huge outpouring of thanks while raising money for the incredible people in the NHS who have been there for the nation over the last year.
Everyone can take part by raising a mug or holding their own virtual or physical tea party (following the latest social distancing guidance).
NHS Charities Together will use the funds raised through the NHS Big Tea to increase the practical and emotional support available to NHS staff, patients and volunteers are they continue to battle the Covid crisis and start down the long road to recovery.
In Cornwall, staff at Treliske have been appreciating each other in their own way.
NHS workers have been nominating each other for 'kitkats of kindness' where they are given a tasty treat and a coffee voucher, and reminded to take a break.
One of those who has received some goodies today is Jo from the infection control team at the Royal Cornwall hospital.
She told us: "Everybody has really come together and pulled together this year to make sure that we can provide safe care.
"And it's really nice that we've been nominated to receive this today, and I'm sure the whole team will be really appreciative that someone has taken the time to nominate them."
Sarah from thee chaplaincy team has also been nominated for a tasty treat.
"Especially this last year, I think chaplaincy has really proven its worth. We have really felt valued and appreciated, and we've been busy, and we've needed a lot of self care.
"But it has been an incredible privilege to take this journey with, so many tragic situations, so many challenges, and yet so much fulfilment, we have got the most rewarding role."
