Treehouse, cafe and touring park in latest plans
They're among hundreds of applications submitted to Cornwall Council
A treehouse holiday let, new cafe and a new camping and touring park are among the latest planning applications which have been submitted to Cornwall Council this week.
There are hundreds of planning applications submitted to Cornwall Council each week which can range from those seeking permission to cut down trees to housing developments of hundreds of new homes.
Each application is considered by planning officers and is published on the council’s planning portal to give the public the opportunity to look at proposals and comment on them if they wish to do so.
Decisions will be made about the applications either by planning officers under delegated powers or they might go before the council’s planning committees.
Here are some of the latest applications which have been validated by the council this week. No dates have been set for when decisions will be made on the various proposals.
Treehouse-style holiday let
A luxury treehouse is planned to be built at Mawgan Porth with a planning application submitted to Cornwall Council. Nigel Curry has made the application to build the holiday accommodation at the site known as The Hideaway.
In a design and access statement submitted with the plans it explains: “This development comprises one new two-bedroom accommodation treehouse and external decking areas on the elevated land to the north of the Hideaway. The development will be sensitively located to offer both convenient access to the main house, as well as a private, exclusive space to retreat to, all carefully positioned to ensure it has minimal visual and environmental impact.
“A ‘light touch’ balaustrade creates a seamless link between the landscape and the accommodation. Each element will be designed with context in mind, so the materials, size and scale will suit the site and provide a wonderful feature for the property, whilst not causing a detrimental impact on any neighbouring properties.”

New cafe in city
Plans have been submitted to create a new garden cafe in the centre of Truro. The planning application submitted to Cornwall Council is for a food service facility and covered seating area in Castle Street.
Castle Street Garden Cafe would be open seven days a week from 8am to 10pm and would have 40 seats. A planning statement says: “If successful we anticipate this being a permanent installation contributing to a vibrant city economy and culture.”
The cafe would be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – serving dishes such as granola, porridge, pancakes and poached eggs for breakfast; English garden salads, fresh artisan pasta, ciabattas and soups for lunch; and pizza in the evening.

Plans for new campsite
There are plans to create a new campsite for up to 12 motorhomes at St Erth Praze. A planning application has been submitted to Cornwall Council for the development of Green Haven Camping and Touring Park at St Erth Praze.
Under the proposals there would be pitches for the motorhomes along with camping pitches. The plans also include four small toilet and shower blocks, parking areas and storage areas for caravans and motorhomes.
A design statement explains: “The plot is situated off Pilgrims Way with access to the A30 a short 10-minute drive away. The proposed motorhome and camping site will provide subtle and discreet countryside accommodation for tourists visiting this area on short breaks as well as on-site storage for local motorhome owners.”
It adds: “The proposed site will provide a new and exciting accommodation option for St Erth Praze and the Cornwall area. Demand for this type of accommodation is high throughout the country, which has also been shown to be true of other sites within the UK. This development will increase footfall for local businesses and through correct marketing, should increase the length of time tourists remain in the area. This will be beneficial for local tourist attractions, restaurants and businesses etc.”
