Park and ride in Truro set to reopen after travellers pitch up on site
Officials say there is an 'unauthorised encampment' at Langarth
One of Truro's park and rides has been forced to close after a group of travellers pitched up on site.
Officials say there is an 'unauthorised encampment' at Langarth and that they are working to resolve the issue.
Cornwall Council is now deciding whether to issue a 'direction to leave' which requires the families to vacate the site.
We're told the park and ride will reopen tomorrow (5th July) and will operate as normal.
A Cornwall Council spokesperson said: "Cornwall Council is working to resolve an issue with an unauthorised encampment at Langarth Park and Ride in Truro.
"Council officers have visited the site to carry out welfare, health and education checks and to decide on appropriate next steps including serving a Direction to Leave which requires the families to vacate the site. If they do not do so the Council can apply to the Court for an order.
"Langarth Park and Ride was closed today whilst those assessments and discussions took place but will reopen tomorrow (Tuesday 5th July). Although the Travellers remain on site, the number of vehicles is few and so will not have an effect on the normal operation of the Park and Ride.
"We are grateful for the co-operation and understanding of residents and commuters and apologise for the disruption caused but safety is always the overriding consideration.
"The Tregurra Park and Ride site has remained open today, with services operating to Truro City Centre, RCH Treliske and Truro College."
