Travel disruption in Cornwall and Devon following fatality on railway line

It is understood that a person has been hit by a train on the main railway line through Cornwall and Devon.

Inrix Traffic and Travel reported that emergency services were dealing with an incident in the Plymouth area.

Great Western Railway have been responding to queries on Twitter about halted services, and said there had a been a fatality.

National Rail said that all lines were closed and a number of services were cancelled or diverted between Truro and Totnes on Thursday (7th April).

Disruption was ongoing through the afternoon and is expected until around 7pm, although the lines have now reopened.

National Rail says: "Lines have reopened between Totnes and Truro following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train.

"Trains may still be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled whilst service recovers.

"Disruption is expected until 19:00."

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "Normal service resumed on Great Western Railway between Totnes and Truro following earlier emergency services dealing with an incident at Plymouth."
