A charity which saw all its Christmas donations destroyed in a massive fire in St Ives has been helped by Pirate FM's Toy Appeal.

On the 4th December, over 80 firefighters battled the blaze on the waterfront in St Ives town centre.

The flames spread to the Salvation Army building and tragically all of its festive hampers and toys, which were destined for children on Christmas morning, were lost in the fire.

The community of Cornwall came together to raise money and offer support for the charity in its time of need.

To date, a Just Giving page for the St Ives branch has reached over £32,000.

Here at Pirate FM we've been running our Toy Appeal, called Mission Christmas, where we ask the kind people of Cornwall to donate presents for disadvantaged children across the Duchy.

We've been inundated with some incredible donations this year, and now we've passed some of those onto the St Ives Salvation Army.

You can watch spokesperson Nathan Loxley collect the toys below...

"It took a while I think for it to really settle in, the scale of what had happened and the job in front of us.

"Straight away from that morning afterwards we were amazed by offers of help, of care, of money, of help, of donations, of prayer. In that hard time we were surrounded by love and really had hope."

He added: "It's amazing, and overwhelming, when you see the toys that have been given."

"We are so full of thanks, for you guys for organising it, for everyone who has donated, it is amazing to see the generosity of people, even in a hard time, in a hard year, that there is something inherently good about us and we want to make sure that no one is left out this Christmas."
