An inquest has been opened into the death of a 20-month-old girl at a campsite in west Cornwall.

Josephine Gordon from Cotgrave in Nottinghamshire lost her life following an incident at Little Trethvas Farm on the Lizard.

Police said they were called to the Helston area on 12th May, to reports of a collision involving a car towing a caravan.

Paramedics and the air ambulance was also scrambled but, tragically, the toddler could not be saved.

In a statement issued at the time, Devon and Cornwall Police said Josephine's family were being supported by specially trained officers.

"Police and paramedics were called to a campsite in the Helston area following a report of a collision between a vehicle and a child at around 12.50pm on Wednesday 12th May.

"Tragically, the child, a 20-month-old girl from the Nottingham area, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Her family is being supported by specially-trained officers.

"The collision involved a car towing a caravan and happened on private land.

"The air ambulance also attended the incident.

"The coroner has been informed and an investigation by officers from the specialist Roads Policing Team continues".

The inquest opened on Thursday 20th May and a full hearing to establish the circumstances surrounding Josephine's death will be held at a later date.
