Met Office issues thunderstorms warning for parts of Cornwall
A yellow alert will be in force for areas east and north of Truro from 12pm on Thursday
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in parts of Cornwall.
Forecasters are warning of possible disruption, when the alert comes into force at 12pm on Thursday (30th June).
There is a chance driving conditions could be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail.
There is also the possibility of power cuts, some flash flooding and lightning strikes causing damage to buildings.
The yellow-level thunderstorm warning will be in force from 12pm until 10pm on Thursday, affecting areas to the north and east of Truro.
What can we expect?
The Met Office says thunderstorms will develop leading to disruption in a few places, and we can expect:
Driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
Delays to train services
Some short term loss of power and other services
Some flooding of a few homes and businesses, leading to some damage to buildings or structures
Some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes
The Met Office forecast says: "Heavy showers will develop through the morning with isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening.
"These will bring the potential for lightning, hail and heavy rain, with a few places seeing 10-20 mm of rain within an hour and a small chance of 40mm in 2-3 hours.
"Showers are likely to weaken over parts of Wales and the southwest of England during Thursday evening but will persist longer in parts of central England and the Midlands".
