The number of coronavirus cases in Cornwall increased by 269 in the last 24 hours, official figures show – and three more deaths were recorded.

A total of 58,269 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in Cornwall when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on November 4 (Thursday), up from 58,000 on Wednesday.

Latest weekly figures show the Duchy recorded 2,342 new cases in the seven days to last Saturday, giving us a case rate of 406.9 per 100,000 people.

Some areas have seen almost double the overall case rate for Cornwall in recent weeks.

Those include parts of Camborne, Pool and Redruth, where the current case rate had topped 1,000 but is now dropping. The highest case rate in the CPR area is Camborne West, at 473.2 per 100,000 people.

Cornwall Council's Public Health Team has warned people that Covid has not gone away and residents and visitors are being urged to remain vigilant, especially over the Bonfire Night weekend.

A government awareness advert is being released in the run-up to Christmas, urging people across the UK to let in fresh air when they meet up indoors.

There were also three more coronavirus deaths recorded in the latest 24-hour period in Cornwall.

The dashboard shows 570 people had died in the area by November 4 (Thursday) – up from 567 on Wednesday.

It means there have been 11 deaths in the past week, which is an increase on 10 the previous week.

They were among 7,701 deaths recorded across the South West.

The figures include anyone who died within 28 days of a positive test result for Covid-19, and whose usual residence was in Cornwall.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

The figures also show that four in five people in Cornwall have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show 417,066 people had received both jabs by November 3 (Wednesday) – 79% of those aged 12 and over, based on the number of people on the National Immunisation Management Service database.

Across England, 79% of people aged 12 and above had received a second dose of the jab.

Unlike at local level, the national rate was calculated using mid-2020 population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.
