Last updated 7th Sep 2020
Figures from the Office of National Statistics show that more than 80 per cent of the areas in Devon and Cornwall have been hit by coronavirus deaths.
The latest data, which contains provisional analysis of all deaths that occurred in up to July 31 and registered up to August 15, where the coronavirus (COVID-19) was involved.
Analysis lists the deaths that had COVID-19 mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether it was the underlying cause of death or not.
The maps divide the counties into small patches of around 7,200 average population which are called Middle Super Output Areas (MSOA), and show that 41 of the 228 MSOA’s had not seen a death occur between March and July. The figures are based on the postcode of the person’s usual residence and not where any death actually took place.
August’s deaths, which currently consist of two in Cornwall, one in East Devon, and one in West Devon, are not included in the figures below, meaning that some of the 41 areas could have subsequently seen their first death.
The figures show that six of the 31 areas in Plymouth had not seen any deaths, two of Torbay’s 18 areas, seven of Cornwall’s 73 areas, and 26 of Devon’s of 106 areas.
