An attempt to break the largest ever synchronised swim will take place this weekend to raise money for Ukraine.

Around 300 swimmers are expected to attend Jubilee Pool in Penzance to break the current Guinness World record of 247 people.

Anthony Garratt, artist and organiser of 'Swim for Ukraine' said: "In this instance half the swimmers are going to wearing yellow swim caps and half are going to be blue so across the Jubilee pool which is obviously quite an iconic Lido in Penzance will form the Ukrainian flag which will be quite visually moving I think.

"We just like the idea of getting people together in these big mass events. On the whole it's a really positive way of getting people to engage with a subject and the record just adds an extra bit of a challenge in".

Sunday's world record attempt will involve a two-minute routine for beginners - which they will teach and complete following the first rehearsals on Saturday.

The group are hoping to create a sea of yellow and blue, as they raise money for Ukraine and Unicef.

Anthony continued: "There's this idea of working together to achieve this common goal. It's a mixture of bringing people together to appreciate the cause but we're also hoping to go for the fundraising as much as possible".

As of Sunday morning, the Swim for Ukraine event had raised almost ÂŁ6,000 and counting.

The event will take place at 5:45pm on Sunday 26th June and you can read more and find out how to donate on the Swim for Ukraine Just Giving page.
