A suspected mine shaft has opened up on a road in Cornwall.

It was first reported on the B3306 at Truthwall, near Botallack, over the weekend.

Cormac have closed the road as a precaution while they investigate and a diversion is in place.

Sue James is a Town Councillor for St Just: "They're hoping they can get a temporary fix in place by the weekend, so hopefully by then the traffic light system will be there.

"That's still going to cause a problem and delays. If your journey is not essential it's best to avoid that stretch of the road."

She adds: "They've opened it right up now and I think the extent that it's opened up, it's almost the whole side of that carriageway. That shows that there was quite a bit of vulnerability there."

Cormac say they will keep drivers updated on when the road is likely to reopen.
