NHS launches 'get the right care' campaign as Cornwall predicts busiest ever summer
Patients are being urged to call 111 or see their GP, as 210,000 visitors are expected to arrive in the Duchy every day
The NHS has launched a new campaign ahead of what is being predicted to be Cornwall's busiest ever summer.
The Duchy is expecting 210,000 visitors a day as more lockdown restrictions are lifted.
Now patients are being urged to call 111 or see their GPs and avoid A&E unless it is a life-threatening emergency.
It comes after Cornwall's health care system was placed on OPEL 4, known as 'black alert' on Wednesday, amid "intense pressure": Read more.
The scheme was launched on the beach at Mother Ivey's Bay near Padstow on Monday, using a special message in the sand.
The artwork, created by local sand artist Chris Howarth, will appear on leaflets and billboards across Cornwall.
Dr John Garman is a GP in Helston and member of NHS Kernow Clinical Commissioning Group's governing body.
He said: "As people embrace the long-awaited next stage of the easing of lockdown and greater freedom, we are all expecting this summer to be like no other.
"We want people to enjoy our beautiful county but if they do become ill or injured be able to access healthcare services quickly and safely.
"Your own GP, whether you are at home or away, is always the best first point of call, and pharmacist can also offer help and treatment with over the counter remedies.
"With more people out and about, taking part in new activities, getting back on the surfboard, SUP or lacing up the walking boots, we anticipate treating more broken or fractured bones and sprains, and burns.
"For these urgent but not emergency conditions, or when your GP surgery is closed, people should call 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk.__
"COVID has not gone away and we must remain on our guard, taking steps to protect ourselves, each other and the NHS".
