The South West has been battered by strong winds as Storm Isha moved in across the region.

An amber weather warning for wind was in force until 6.00am this morning (Monday 22 January), with a yellow warning remaining until midday.

There were reports of power cuts across Cornwall and Devon overnight, but these homes have since been reconnected.

Great Western Railway (GWR) say bridge damage means there is no rail service between Credition and Barnstaple.

There have also been reports of fallen trees overnight, with Taunton Fire Station posting pictures of one down on the High Street there.

The strong winds have also led to restrictions on the M48 Severn Bridge.

What to expect

  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
