An amber warning for wind is in force across all of North Cornwall and Devon with gusts of up to 80 miles an hour forecast across the UK.

The Met Office says Storm Henk could pose a danger to life from "flying debris" as it batters southern England, the Midlands, East Anglia and Wales.

The alert is in place until 8pm and is also expected to cause some travel disruption.

Dave, Kernow Weather Team, said: "You really have to be careful. It's the strength of the winds, they might not be strong for a while but then you'll get sudden strong gusts of 60-70mph and if you're out driving that could blow your car around or your van if you're driving a high sided vehicle. It's quite dangerous if you're out and about."

As well as strong winds, flood alerts are in place across much of Devon and Cornwall due to forecasted heavy downpours.

Trains between Plymouth and Exeter have been cancelled due to waterlogged tracks.

Paul Gentleman, GWR spokesperson, said: "We've got an area of the line between Totnes and Plymouth which currently got one line of the two lines closed. This is because the water has risen above the rail tracks."

"We're only operating trains along one line. Trains have to take turns to cross that section of track and obviously that's going to mean delays and some cancellations."
