St Ives second most searched for small town holiday destination in the UK
The town had more than 5,000 searches per month during the pandemic
A study has revealed St Ives has been the second most searched for small town holiday destination in the UK.
A little over a year since the start of the pandemic and the desire to travel is not diminishing.
In the past year, British staycations have been booming and this year will be no different.
But where do people want to go? What will be the most popular destination in 2021?
Holidu, the search engine for holiday rentals, decided to carry out a study to determine which small UK towns and cities British people have been looking for in the last twelve months.
All towns with less than 20,000 inhabitants were considered for this study.
The ranking was drawn up using the average number of monthly searches on Google for these towns with the terms "what to do" and "things to do” to determine the most popular small towns with holidaymakers.
St Ives in Cornwall came in second place with 5,280 Google searches per month.
It was praised for its sun, sea and surfing - and also for having a vibrant art scene that frequently hosts art displays with the work of many world-renowned artists.
Whitby, in North Yorkshire, was the most searched for destination - with 6,280 searches every month.
In third place was Llandudno, Clwyd in Wales - with 4,080 searches.
Penzance came in at number five, and was the only other place in Cornwall to make the top 10 list.
The town received 2,380 searches per month. It was recognised for its great pubs, restaurants and attractions as well as having one of the mildest climates in the UK.
