There will be no live Christmas lights switch-on countdown in St Austell tonight (Saturday 26 November).
Organisers have made the difficult decision of cancelling it due to the weather.
This means there will be no stage entertainment too, but indoor events will still go ahead as planned.
The lights will still illuminate the town from 5.00pm.
St Austell BID said: "Unfortunately due to the forecast and weather warnings for this afternoon, we have had to make the difficult decision of cancelling the stage and stage entertainment along with the live Christmas lights switch on countdown, although the lights will illuminate from 5.00pm.
"We're disappointed to have to do so but health and safety is of utmost priority. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. The indoor events and Teacup ride will go ahead as planned."
Indoor events still taking place include:
- The Fun Palace, Alymer Square
- Winter Wonderland, Holy Trinity Church
- Christmas at the Market House
- Craft stalls at Studio 4
Redruth have also made some changes to their Christmas light switch-on plans tonight due to the weather.
Discover Redruth said: "Due to the predicted weather forecast of strong winds and heavy rain, we are having to make some changes to the light switch on event.
"The Lantern Display will be postponed - we are inviting all community members who were taking part to join us for the "Cornish Yule Tide Afternoon" at Kresen Kernow on 10 December 1.00pm until 3.00pm.
"The Christmas lights will still be switched at 5.30pm on the 26 of November, to mark the beginning of the festive season. As we know many will not want to be out in the bad weather, this will be live streamed and we will be creating a film to go on the website and social media - we ask everyone to share the video far and wide so we can reach as many people as possible!
"The "switch on" will be taking place in the foyer of Redruth Library so unfortunately, we will not have space for people to gather.
"The festive market will still be taking place (11.00am until 5.00pm) but all traders will be moved indoors including Market Hall and The Buttermarket.
"The Wassail and Mummers play is still taking place, but will be moved in to The Buttermarket/Market Hall before they begin the procession. They will begin from 4.00pm. Redruth Carol Choir will be singing the traditional Cornish Carols alongside the Wassail also from 4.00pm in The Buttermarket/Market Hall."
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain, which covers parts of Cornwall - including St Austell.
