It has been revealed that South Africa has been invited to join the G7 summit in Cornwall.

The country's president will join other world leaders in Carbis Bay as a guest.

South Africa will attend part of the Summit alongside South Korea, Australia and India.

The government says it is still planning for a physical summit in the Duchy in June and all in-person meetings will adhere to Covid-19 safety measures.

They say they will also take whatever measures are needed to keep delegates, staff and local residents in Cornwall safe.

"The Prime Minister has invited the South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to attend the G7 Leaders’ Summit in Cornwall as a guest.

South Africa will attend part of the Summit alongside South Korea, Australia and India.

"We are planning for a physical Summit to bring world leaders together in the UK in June for open and frank discussions.
