A mum is warning beach goers after her six-year-old daughter suffered severe burns from a barbecue buried beneath the sand.
Ross and Becci Baker's daughter Lydia, from St Keverne, the Lizard, was attending her sister’s end of year six celebration at Porthoustock beach on Friday.
She ran barefoot across a barbecue which had been left abandoned on the beach which was covered with no chance of seeing it. Her family have told us the burning coals caused her to suffer horrific burns on both her feet, leaving Lydia in unbearable pain and unable to walk.
"She's unable to walk for the foreseeable future"
She has attended hospital where the burned skin had to be removed and her feet treated and bandaged.
Becci said: "My eldest daughter went to go for a swim leaving her clothes on the beach, when my 6 year old ran after her picked up her clothes and followed on after her straight over the top of someone's buried bbq under the rocks.
"She suffered severe burns on both her feet leading to her needing intranasal fentanyl and entinox whilst they removed as much burnt skin from her feet as they could.
"We're now waiting to hear if she will need to attend the specialist burns unit at Derriford hospital for further treatment depending on progress at tomorrow's bandage change (48 hours post injury) she's unable to walk for the foreseeable future and in a lot of pain!"
Lydia's family are urging parents to make sure children are wearing beach shoes "to try and prevent anyone else having to see their child in so much pain due to someone else's negligence."
