More of Cornwall is set to be battered by torrential rain as a severe weather warning is extended.

The Met Office yellow warning now covers areas from Launceston down to Bodmin.

It came into force at 1pm on Friday and will now last through until 5pm on Saturday night.

Up to 110 millimetres could fall in some areas, with Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor being at risk.

Forecasters say the persistent and at times heavy rain may result in flooding and disruption to transport and utilities.

Flood alerts are also in force for rivers across Cornwall as levels rise because of the heavy rainfall.

What to expect

There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads

"The current band of rain is expected to remain slow moving over southwestern England through today. Whilst many places will see a spell of heavy rain, high ground of southwest England around Dartmoor and Bodmin moor which are exposed to the south, will likely see the largest rainfall totals.

"Here, some 50 - 70 mm of rain is likely, with the most exposed parts of Dartmoor potentially seeing up to 110 mm by the end of Saturday. As well as heavy rain, strong to gale force southerly winds will be an additional hazard."
