Police have issued an appeal following a serious crash in west Cornwall that has left a young biker with life-changing injuries.

The 25-year-old man's scooter and a car collided near The Smugglers Inn at St Erth Praze on Saturday morning.

The casualty was airlifted to hospital following the incident, which happened at lunchtime.

The B3302 was closed for just over three hours while the scene was examined by specialist officers.

It was one of two motorbike collisions in Cornwall over the weekend. The other left a man, 18, with life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who witnessed either collision - or who has any relevant dashcam footage - is asked to contact Devon & Cornwall Police.

A force spokesperson said: "Police investigating a road traffic collision at St Erth on Saturday 24th September are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"Officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a Lexmoto scooter and a grey Audi A1 car near The Smugglers Inn, Calais Road, St Erth, at around 12.15pm.

"The motorcyclist, a 25-year-old local man, sustained life changing injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital.

"The road was closed in both directions while the scene was examined and reopened at around 3.25pm.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
