One person 'seriously injured' as collision closes A39 at Penryn in both directions

Police have confirmed a woman who suffered serious injuries following an incident on the A39 in Cornwall has died.

They say a pedestrian was caught in a collision with a van at Penryn and emergency services were called to the scene.

The air ambulance was also scrambled and the casualty was taken to hospital, where she later died.

The fatal collision happened near the Treliever Roundabout just after 9.30am on Friday 24th June.

The road was closed in both directions between the Treliever and Kernick roundabouts.

Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward, via 101.

A force spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a van and a pedestrian on the A39 at Treliever, Penryn, at around 9.35am today, Friday 24 June.

"One person has been seriously injured and emergency services are on the scene.

"Local road closures have been put in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area. The incident is ongoing".

In a later statement, the force said: "The pedestrian, a 33-year-old woman from the local area, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by Cornwall Air Ambulance, where she later died.

"Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by police".
