Man suffers 'significant injuries' following a serious assault in St Austell

Police are investigating what is being described as a serious assault in St Austell.

A man suffered what officers are calling significant injuries on Victoria Road.

It happened near the convenience store on Tuesday evening.

Streets in the area were cordoned off and the air ambulance was seen landing in a nearby field.

In a statement released in the early hours of Wednesday morning, officers confirmed two men were in police custody.

Devon & Cornwall Police said both were helping officers with their enquiries.

The force is appealing for witnesses and urging anyone who saw something just after 7pm to to come forward.

Devon & Cornwall Police said: "At around 1920hrs on Tuesday 06th July 2021, a male received significant injuries following an assault near to the convenience store, Victoria Road, St Austell.

"Two males are currently in police custody assisting police with their enquiries.

"If you witnessed anything or have any information in relation to this incident please contact police on 101 quoting log 912 06/07/21, or alternatively contact crime stoppers".
