Shocking video footage has emerged of a homeless man being attacked in Truro, with police describing the incident as a serious assault.

It appears to show a group of young people punching and kicking the man by his makeshift bed.

It happened in the Moorfield Car Park on Saturday night and officers since confirmed that a 'number of arrests' have been made.

They are asking people not to share the footage or comment on social media, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who saw what happened between 10pm and 10.15pm is being urged to come forward.

It is understood the casualty has been taken to hospital, however Devon and Cornwall Police have not given an update on his condition.

On Sunday the force said a 'number of arrests' had been made after it happened in Moorfield Car Park on Saturday 12th February.

On Monday, Detective Inspector Steve Moorcroft said: "We are aware of footage that is circulating across social media which appears to show an horrific assault on a homeless man by a gang of teenagers, in Truro.

"Six teenagers are currently in police custody having been arrested in connection to this incident and enquires continue into this matter.

"I wish to reassure the public that the matter is being dealt with, but ask that for the sake of the victim, that people do not share the footage of the attack.

"Anyone with any information is being asked to contact 101@dc.police.uk quoting log 973 12 February".
