A second thunderstorm warning has been issued for Cornwall in as many days.

At the start of the week the Duchy basked in temperatures up to 28C during the mini heatwave.

Now there is rain, thunder, lightning and flooding on the cards.

The first thunderstorm warning is in force now through until 9pm on Wednesday night (8th September). It covers the north and south east of the Duchy, from Wadebridge, Bodmin and Fowey upwards.

A second yellow weather alert has now been issued by the Met Office for Thursday (9th September) which covers a larger part of Cornwall, down to the Redruth area. But it misses out the far west and along with the edge of the north and south coast.

Forecasters say we could see lightning strikes, flooding and difficult driving conditions.

What to expect:

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

There is a small chance that some rural communities could temporarily become cut off by flooded roads

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Following overnight rain and showers, more intense showers and thunderstorms are expected to break out fairly widely from late-morning, before easing during the evening.

"Whilst many areas will miss the most intense storms, torrential downpours are likely in a few places. Where these occur, there is potential for 20 to 30 mm of rain in less than an hour and up to 40 mm in 2 hours.

"This will have the potential to generate surface water flooding, especially if it falls over an urban area."
