Parents, staff and pupils who attend a school on the Lizard are being reassured that the risk is small, following rumours of a case of coronavirus within the school community.

Bosses at Grade Ruan C of E Primary School and Cornwall Council have sent letters out to parents and guardians explaining that the parent of a child at the school has tested positive for Covid-19.

The child has now been asked to self-isolate along with their family for 10 days.

The school says it is working with Public Health England to ensure appropriate action is taken.

In the letter to parents, it reads;

There have been a lot of rumours in the local community over the last few days and I thought it was important to write to all of you to clarify the facts.

We have received confirmation from Public Health England that a parent of one of our children has tested positive for COVID-19. In line with the latest guidance that child has been asked to self-isolate, along with their family for 10 days.

I am reassured that the risk to our school community is small, but we will continue to work with Public Health England and Cornwall Council to ensure appropriate action is taken.

We would like to remind everyone to help us limit the spread of the virus by adhering to Public Health advice.

To stay Covid safe everyone should wash their hands regularly for at least 20 seconds using soap and water or using hand sanitiser, not gather in groups of more than 6, follow social distancing measures keeping 2 metres apart if you can, keeping to school bubbles and wearing face masks in line with government advice.

We would also like to reinforce messaging about self-isolation, if there is a suspected or confirmed case in a household then whole household needs to self-isolate in line with government guidelines.

Thank you for your support.
