The UK's very own Eurovision star has been spotted going for a surf in Newquay.

Sam Ryder shot to fame after coming second in this year's song contest, which saw Ukraine take the top spot.

A few weeks on since the show, local resident Hayley Maxton spotted the 33-year-old TikTok singer coming out of the water at Fistral beach over the weekend.

She went over to say hello and even got him to help model a t-shirt for her business, Coastal Warrior Co.

Hayley told us: "I just spotted him on Fistral beach, I live in Newquay and I was on the beach for the day. I always carry some t-shirts around for my business just in case some good modelling opportunities pop up, like this one!

"I just went over to him and said 'hey did you have a good surf', he said he did and that he was about to go and watch the grand prix. I explained about my business and I was wearing one of my hoodies and he said he loved it, I said can I give you a t-shirt and he was over the moon by that offer.

"I went and grabbed some t-shirts to show him and he took the octopus design and he was just asking a lot about the design and if I drew them, which was really really nice, the fact he is on holiday trying to relax after Eurovision but still took the time to talk to me about my business."

Who is Sam Ryder?

Sam Ryder is fast-rising singer and social media sensation! After racking up over 12 million followers on TikTok, Sam was chosen to represent the United Kingdom at this year's Eurovision Song Contest and finished in second place.

The singer, who can also play guitar, released his debut EP 'The Sun's Gonna Rise' in 2021, as well as dropping tracks such as 'July', 'Tiny Root' and 'Whirlwind'.

Believe it or not, Sam Ryder was catapulted to fame when he set up a TikTok account during lockdown in March 2020. Sam uploaded a number of videos of himself to the platform, performing covers of well-known tracks by artists such as N-Trance, Sia, Adele, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Sam Smith, Bruno Mars and Lewis Capaldi.

By the end of 2020, Sam was the most-followed UK artist on TikTok, which led to him being signed by record label Parlophone Records Limited.

Sam announced in March 2022 he would be representing the UK with his track 'Space Man' at this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

The singer wrote 'Space Man' with GRAMMY winning songwriters Amy Wadge and Max Wolfgang.

Speaking about his involvement at this year's Eurovision, Sam said: "I don't want to let the stigma or fear of coming at a certain place in a table stop me from doing something and being a part of something that I enjoy so much.

"As long as I can go to Eurovision and know in my heart of hearts I'm going to do the best job I can then everything else is out of my control."
