The biggest event in Cornwall's agricultural calendar returns today (Thursday 8 June).

The Royal Cornwall Show gets underway at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre near Wadebridge and runs until Saturday (10 June).

Last year the event saw its highest visitor numbers in seven years, with 120,671 people attending across the three days.

Organisers expect this year could be even more popular. Secretary Chris Riddle says it has taken a lot of preparation:

"We've got a huge volunteer force, with many hundreds of stewards. Lots of people come and judge from far and wide - this year including Australia and America, which is great to see.

"It is a huge event. There's a lot of people putting in an awful lot of effort."

Visitors are also being urged to be prepared for the hot weather, as a yellow heat health alerts comes into force from Friday through to Monday.

Chris adds: "Bring a hat, bring some sun cream, think ahead. It is largely an outdoor event, obviously there's a lot of tentage as well but it is largely outdoors. We've got various free water points where you can fill up water bottles around the site."

There's plenty going on across the jam-packed three days, from animals, to entertainment at the Main Ring, a Food and Farming Pavilion and much more.

You can find out what's on by visiting the Royal Cornwall Show's website.

Pirate FM will be at the show on all three days. You can visit us at Stand 475 or check all the other trade stand locations here.
