The 2021 Royal Cornwall Show has been cancelled
Bosses say there are too many uncertainties around large events and what the rules will be
The 2021 Royal Cornwall Show has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The annual event in the Cornish calendar has been set to take place in September and it will be the second year in a row that it hasn't gone ahead.
Bosses say it is down to the current uncertainty surrounding the potential restrictions to the staging of large events later this year.
The Council of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (RCAA) added that the decision has been made with great disappointment and sadness.
The Association had previously postponed the Show from June to September, in the hope that it would be possible to stage it then.
However, with the current unknowns on social distancing, other potential restrictions, and the threat of the possibility of a third wave of outbreaks later this year, they say it cannot be certain that holding the Royal Cornwall Show would be possible in 'anything like its usual form'.
They say their main priority is to protect the health and safety of visitors, members, trade stand holders, exhibitors, staff and all those involved in preparing and delivering the show, which means that this is the safest, and only decision they could make.
"We know that this decision will come as a huge disappointment to many, including ourselves. We hope that our visitors, members, exhibitors, and traders, understand this difficult decision we have had to make, and we thank them for their patience at this time.
"We look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2022, when we can hopefully celebrate being together once more."
Chris Riddle ARAgS, Secretary of the RCAA
Further information:
The RCAA team will be in touch with members, ticket holders and trade exhibitors, over the coming days to explain their options, and the next steps with the option to transfer bookings to 2022. However, they do ask for people's patience at this time while they are operating with reduced staffing levels.
Please note, that if you have already paid for membership in 2021, that this will be automatically rolled-over to a 2022 Membership.
Bosses say they would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all the key workers at this time, and all the work they have done, and continue to do for all of us and particularly those involved as staff or volunteers at either the Covid Testing Facility or the Mass Vaccination Centre here at the Royal Cornwall Events Centre.
They added: "We wish everyone all the very best during these difficult times, and thank you all for your patience and support."
The next Royal Cornwall Show will take place on the 9th, 10th, and 11th June 2022.
