A road was left closed after a big barn fire broke out in Cornwall.

The blaze broke out in the St Columb area, and the road through Quoit was shut on Thursday afternoon (12th May).

Firefighters are on the scene and photos on social media show smoke billowing from the site and into the air.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that multiple appliances were called and described it as a 'large industrial fire'.

Crews remain at the site but the road has now reopened.

A Spokesperson said: "We are in attendance at a large industrial fire in the St Columb area. Multiple appliances and special kit in attendance. Further updates to follow."

They have since added: "Good progress been made by crews. One barn 20x40m alight. Three ground monitors in use."

A further update reads: "Incident now scaled down to 1 pumping appliance. Crews are dampening down and turning over hot spots."
